The timing is simply terrible. The Miami International Boat Show runs from February 16-20 and the bridge closure would force vessels out of boatyards up the river almost a week ahead of time. After the show is over, vessels would not be able to get back to boatyards for refits, haul outs, etc. or return to their regular docks west of the bridge. And where will all these boats be docked in the interim? Who is covering the added expenses?
We are not alone in our concern. Twenty-two plaintiffs have filed suit to push the closure to May, when the winter boating season is over.
Shipyard owners sue to delay closing of New River bridge
We will be attending the hearing on January 27 and hope AAF comes up with a reasonable solution. We will keep you posted.
