106-Foot Expedition Yacht Likely Unrecoverable
M/Y Serena III Founders Off Fort Lauderdale

Brazilian-flagged Serena III was on her way to the Bahamas.
"Mayday, mayday, mayday .... We are sinking." The distress call went out around half past six on Monday evening and, according to Sea Tow captain, Tim Morgan, less than two hours later, M/Y Serena III had capsized, sinking some 1,200 feet, 15 miles east of Hillsboro Inlet.

Responding assets from the U.S. Coast Guard successfully rescued the captain, six guests and six crew members. And for that, we are most grateful, as always.

The Coast Guard will investigate this incident, according to Public Affairs Specialist, Jon-Paul Rios, who described the rescue as "really hectic" due to unfavorable weather. Winds were blowing about 15-20 knots out of the east and south east.
